My name is Martin Cheníček and I have been freediving for over 15 years. I've been through many sports at the top level in my life, I swim marathons, run around 100 km a week, rock climb, kitesurf a lot, jump from a plane. In the past, I raced snowboard and downhill bike for 10 years, I've done road bike races. I am a person for whom sport is not just a physical activity, but above all a form of movement in body and soul.
But freediving is number one for me, and it's more than just a sport. Hard to define, hard to pigeonhole. For me, it has become the most comprehensive sporting activity that demands everything from me. Physical fitness, understanding your body, the processes within it, and last but not least, it is the shortest route to meditation for me, because diving underwater is a kind of entrance to the temple of silence and water.
